Frequently Asked Questions About VaVia Franchise

What makes VaVia unique in the industry?

The waste hauling industry is commonly fraught with antiquated business practices, poor customer service, and confusing pricing practices.  VaVia steps above our competition by offering a professional white glove service at a price that anyone can understand.  We’ve also implemented automation and technology into our business that solves for many of the pain points in our dumpster rental process.

How much does it cost to start?

Our initial investment is around $570,000, however new franchisees need to plan for additional capital deployment through the first 2 years of the business.  As the demand grows for your services, you will need to acquire additional trucks and dumpsters.  We recommend having access to $1,000,000 for the total investment.

How quickly can I get started?

VaVia franchisees have the benefit of not having brick and mortar operations which tends to delay development timelines.  We can launch new franchisees within 90 days of an initial introductory call, however most of our locations take 5-6 months to develop from franchise candidate to open for business.

Why don’t you utilize larger containers?

Smaller containers have many advantages over larger containers.  Job sites are getting more constricted in urban markets, and many times there just isn’t enough space.  Additionally, most of the business that we support is in the residential remodeling and renovation category.  Those types of jobs typically don’t need large containers, and it’s our job to educate those customers on why they don’t need to spend extra on large dumpsters.  With the smaller containers, we’re also able to keep our vehicles under 26,000 lbs in Gross Vehicle Weight, meaning that we do not need to hire CDL drivers to run our trucks.  Lastly, the investment is significantly less with smaller trucks and containers, which allows our franchisees to focus on acquiring more dumpsters to grow their business faster.

Why should I buy a franchise?

Franchising is a great way to get into an industry that you are not already familiar with.  A franchise has already developed an operating model, tools, and process.  This means that the franchisee needs to focus on implementation and execution.  You are also able to mitigate some of your risk by joining a franchise.  Since we have been in the waste hauling business for so long, we’ve already found the pitfalls and mistakes that can be made in this business.

How do the territories work?

At VaVia, we sell territories in population increments of 300,000 people.  Each additional territory that you purchase will increase your franchise fee.  We will work directly with you on evaluating the market and determining an appropriate territory for your franchise.  This will include competitive analysis, disposal site research, demographic studies, and pricing studies.

Is there really that much dumpster business out there?

Yes!  At VaVia, we do about 85% of our business B2B.  Because we work with so many contractors, we get much more frequent orders than you would from a consumer.  Much of the B2B business is developed by building relationships and meeting with potential customers face-to-face.  We’ve developed a sales playbook that will support you in finding opportunities to network with potential customers, and how to sell to different industries.  We also have great automated tools that will handle the follow up for you.  As the Franchisor, our job is to provide tools, process, and resources that help our franchisees stay on the offense, and out of repetitive day to day tasks.

How much money can I make?

The results of your business will vary depending on your skill, effort, and relationships.  After an initial introductory call, you will begin the process of reviewing our Franchise Disclosure Document.  In item 19 of our FDD, we disclose financial results for each of our locations.  Additionally, we will help foster conversations with our current franchisees so you can get candid feedback on their experience and financial results.

How does VaVia support me?

VaVia focuses on providing best in class support to all of our franchisees.  From the moment you inquire, the VaVia team goes to work on your behalf.  We provide 1-on-1 support to all of our franchisees in Operations, Training, Sales, Marketing, Safety, and Accounting.  You’ll never be left to figure things out on your own.  Our model is built to grow, and we want to be with you every step of the way making that a reality.
